The new RCC video explores how competition authorities decide which cases to pursue when operating with limited resources.
Competition authorities often have to set priorities for their investigations and enforcement activities while working with finite resources. This raises important questions about how resources can be allocated to maximise the impact of enforcement, while ensuring that authorities remain flexible and accountable in their decision-making.
In the video, Maria Pilar Canedo, Academic Director of the OECD-GVH Regional Centre for Competition, discusses the topic with Or Brook, Associate Professor of Competition Law at the University of Oxford, and Professor William Kovacic, Professor of Competition Law and Policy at George Washington University and Director of the Competition Law Center.
The experts consider, among other things, the factors that competition authorities may take into account when selecting cases and allocating available resources. They also discuss how to strike a balance between institutional flexibility, the efficient use of resources and accountability, with a view to maximising the impact of enforcement.
The video is part of the “Key Competition Topics Explained in a Few Minutes” series and builds on the discussions and insights from the latest training programme for national judges, organised with the support of the European Commission.
